Over 634 species
On the shore of Loch Sunart on the west coast of Scotland, the rugged Ardnamurchan peninsula is home to wood warblers, redstarts and spotted flycatchers. Embark on a guided walk and you might be lucky enough to see an otter or a seal frolicking along the shore. The RSPB reserve at Glenborrodale is located on the hills beside Loch Sunart and consists of Atlantic oak woodland, heath and bog. Over 634 species of flowering plant have been recorded on or in the vicinity of the reserve. The reserve supports over 40 species of liverwort, over 70 mosses and over 90 species of lichen. Lichens include Arthothelium dictyosporum, Bactrospora dryina, Fuscopannaria sampaiana and Pseudocyphellaria norvegica. Liverwort species include Adelanthus decipiens (Deceptive Featherwort) and Plagiochila atlantica (Western Featherwort). Over 30 species of fern have been recorded on site or nearby, including Wilson's filmy fern.
